Sea of Apps

Apple launched the App Store only a year ago and it is now the key driver in iPhone and iPod devices. Already, this online store for mobile phones has 65,000 free and paid applications. Yesterday, Apple said customers have downloaded $1.5 billion of free and paid apps so far...and Apple receives 30% of any third party app. Do the math. “Competitors” like Palm and Research in Motion have a lot of catching up to do.

How does an app stand out in the sea of apps? First, of course, create a quality product that consumers want to use. Second, place it in a less popular category and be thoughtful and selective on its key words.  Third, publicize it whether using discounts or guerilla marketing tactics.
